South of North has received a grant of 33000 e from Nordisk Kulturfond. Konstnärsnämnden has recently awarded SoN 6100 e and Letterstedska Förening 500 e. This means that the financial basis of the project is now secured. The preliminary program for the Helsinki seminar is now complete and will soon be published together with a more detailed information concerning the dates and the venue.
Several South of North teams are exhibiting their projects at Architecture of Necessity at Virserums Artmuseum in Sweden. The winners of Architecture of Necessity in 2010, Tyin tegnestue architects, were invited as a members of the jury. An honorary mention was commended to The Big Necessity by Anna Sundman from AES. for the prototype eco-toilet built in Fiji, solving multiple challenges and combining local customs and materials with modern techniques.

Nordic Culture Point has awarded South of North a grant in the amount of 15 000 e for network building. The grant will be used for financing the planning and implementing of the Nordic miniseminars. The next seminar will take place in Helsinki in October 2013. More info will follow soon!
The first South of North seminar took place in Stockholm on 09.03.2013 as a part of ASF Sweden’s Annual Meeting. Participants from Komitu Architects, Asante Collective and Architects Without Borders Denmark described the current projects: Noora Aaltonen and Inari Virkkala from Komitu gave a presentation of the Kouk Khleang Youth Center in Cambodia, Pi Hedberg presented ASF Denmark’s recently realized housing project in Sierra Leone and Asante Collective talked about the planning process for the Econef Children’s Center. A joint planning meeting for the coming South of North – events was held on 10.03.2013.
