During the last decade, emerging Nordic architect practices have been using their professional skills to support the less priviledged communities. Some of the important results of the projects so far have been imporving the livelihood of women in Senegal, promoting ecological sanitation in Fiji and the proliferation of bambu building in Cambodia.

Interestingly, the South of North teams aim to involve the use of local and traditional techniques and customs during the planning and construction process. However, all the projects, despite being built in different locations all over the world, do share common elements.

Listen the conversation PODCAST

What are the challenges in Africa's current rapid socio-economic development that architects have the capacity to address? Can foreign architects play any role on the African continent today and during the coming decades? If so, how?

”Mouthful of meetings” was a moderated conversation focusing on socioeconomic sustainability in current and future development collaboration. It brought together contemporary Nordic and African architecture practices and institutions with focus on socially committed architecture. The event was organized as part of the Nordic Pavillion exhibition 2014, Forms of Feedom. African Independence and Nordic Models.
